Centro Mimir

L'essenziale e' invisibile agli occhi".

(Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Il Piccolo Principe, Capitolo XXI)

Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:

“Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.”

THE BIG HOUSE is Caerleon’s new multi-artist project that celebrates the freedoms bestowed upon all humans being by the Universal Delclaration of Human Rights which celebrates it’s 61′s anniversary on December 10th..

THE BIG HOUSE, slang for prison, is just that — A bleak gray institution surrounded by an oversized barbed wire fence and four guard towers that keep watch on 24 prison cells in which artists from around the world have created art installations that take on the 30 articles from the Universal Declaration of Human rights.

*”If you’re innocent in prison, you suffer for it because it means you can’t get parole because you won’t say you’re guilty. When people like that year after year continue to maintain they are innocent, then those people are the people we have to listen to.”
Rubin “Hurricane” Carter (freed innocent prisoner and activist)

It is a sad and unfortunate fact that, sometimes, innocent people are sent to jail and suffer from injustices.
Our work is for all the innocents who spend most of their life dreaming of freedom and fighting for justice, for the ones who won their battle and the ones who unjustly died.
