Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:
“Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.”
THE BIG HOUSE is Caerleon’s new multi-artist project that celebrates the freedoms bestowed upon all humans being by the Universal Delclaration of Human Rights which celebrates it’s 61’s anniversary on December 10th..
THE BIG HOUSE, slang for prison, is just that — A bleak gray institution surrounded by an oversized barbed wire fence and four guard towers that keep watch on 24 prison cells in which artists from around the world have created art installations that take on the 30 articles from the Universal Declaration of Human rights.

The Caerleon sims are part of the Virtual Art Intiative. The original Caerleon Isle sim was founded in Second Life by Georg Janick in Feb 2008 and has since grown to four sims in Second Life : Caerleon Isle, New Caerleon, Caerleon Art Collective2 and Caerleon Erato and four new sims on Reaction Grid. The Caerleon sims are home to 31+ artist residents and educators and feature a wide range of art exhibitions, collaborative projects, art classes, lectures and workshops. Merini come Van Gogh ha conosciuto la tragedia della malattia che ti devasta la mente, ma soprattutto ha conosciuto il lato peggiore della medicina che invece avrebbe dovuto aiutarla. Quella psichiatria contenitiva che si prefiggeva di curare il disagio della società piuttosto che quello del singolo, ma il cui unico effetto era l’aggiunta di sofferenza a sofferenza. Un miracolo che Alda Merini sia sopravvissuta conservando quella dote creativa che un giorno, ci auguriamo, le varranno il premio Nobel. Altri non ce l’hanno fatta, ma a me piace pensare che se a lei l’impresa è riuscita, dipende proprio da quel dono che ne hanno fatto un fiore capace di nascere e resistere tra le rocce. E non sarà dunque un caso se è nata il 21 marzo, primo giorno di primavera, del 1931.

Quando Philip Linden mise nelle mani dei residenti gli strumenti per costruire, creò le stesse condizioni che sono alla base del Burning Man. Tutti contribuiscono. Nessuno è speciale e tutti sono una star!
Mettiti in gioco. Non importa quanto ne sai di Second Life. E se non sei un bravo builder. Questo è il luogo per sperimentare e imparare dagli altri. What is Burning Life?
Burning Life is a festival of community, art and fire in the virtual world of Second Life. It was first held in 2003 when the Second Life grid was still in it’s infancy, and it’s inspired by the real life Art, Fire and Community festival known globally as Burning Man. Both Burning Man and Second Lifebegan in San Francisco, California. But they have a lot more in common than their birthplace….
Some History:
In 1999, a dreamy guy from San Francisco decided to go explore this Burning Man thing he’d been hearing about. Into his car, he tossed a tent, water and everything else he needed to survive, then he drove 300 miles out to the Nevada high desert. He arrived at a featureless, 40-square miles of cracked mud, ringed by distant mountains. Hot. It was terribly hot. Except when the sun went down.
Then it was just plain cold. The Black Rock Desert is an ancient dry lake bed. “The Playa”, geologists called it; harsh, foreign, unforgiving and so shockingly barren that it *begs* to be your empty canvas. A strange encampment had been erected there, ringed around a 40-foot tall anthropomorphic wooden statue destined to be burned the last night. What the Dreamer found there— a huge group of people, self organized into a city, collaboratively creating a different reality—tweaked the direction of the project he was working on back in San Francisco, and filled his head with ideas about the nature of reality, creativity, identity and community. He worked some of these ideas into the very fabric of his project “Linden World”, which you and I now know as Second Life.
That Dreamer was our founder Philip Linden.
Fast forward to 2003. Numerous Linden Lab employees were regulars at Burning Man, but by 2003 they were too busy getting Second Life out the door to visit the real life Playa. So Phoenix Linden approached the Burning Man organization for permission to build a tribute to the real event in Second Life. With permission duly granted, the Lindens built a Man statue much like the real thing, and “burned” it in-world. Which seems like ancient history 
. 2009 marks Burning Life’s 7th year here in Second Life.
Our Inspiration:
What happens at the real life Burning Man is quite phenomenal. This real-world city of 50,000, built entirely by its citizens, is 100 miles from the nearest source of supplies. Yet it has roads, street signs, an FAA-approved airport, a power grid, a hospital, huge public plazas, street lights, processions, rituals and spectacles. It has fabulous fashions, ridiculous situations and artworks so raw they are literally dangerous. “No Spectators” is a common meme and in fact, passive consumption of amusement is pretty difficult in a Survival Camping environment such as this. You must bring with you everything you need to survive, since nothing is for sale and exchange of money is forbidden in Black Rock City. Water, shelter, food— the hot tub, the 3-storey duck-shaped nightclub you designed, the fabulous sequined cocktail dress, the personal flame thrower— you need to bring it all with you!
And people do. Many camps roll onto the playa with fully loaded 16-wheelers and hundreds of camp-mates anxious to get to work building their vision.
BUT – It’s all temporary. At the end of a week, much of the artwork is burned, and every last last speck of what was brought there is taken away again, down to the last sequin, Leaving No Trace of the city that was just there. When the winter rains come, even the footprints will vanish. Til next year….
Why we do Burning Life:
For the same reason people do Burning Man. To learn and grow. And to form a community that values creative learning and growing. The temporal nature of it is vital to having immediate and unmediated experience, and the DIY aesthetic meshes perfectly with Second Life’s riot of user-created content.
When Philip Linden put the tools of creation into the hands of Residents, he set up the same level playing field that energizes Burning Man. Everyone contributes. Nobody is special, and everyone is a star!

Festival della Creatività 2009: inaugurazione, tutti in Fortezza!
Festival della Creativita’ 2009“Le città del futuro, il futuro della città”. Il Festival della Creatività 2009 dedicato agli scenari urbanistici futuri, dal 15 al 18 ottobre alla Fortezza da Basso di Firenze, debutta con i grandi incontri di giovedì pomeriggio 15 ottobre.
Le porte della Fortezza aprono alle 15 con performance e testimonianze di forte impatto visivo ed emotivo: alle 15.30 la presentazione del presidente della Regione Claudio Martini dalla pedana del Cavaniglia, cui seguirà la lettura del messaggio del presidente della Repubblica Giorgio Napolitano. Subito dopo, alle 15.45, la spettacolare proiezione del cortometraggio in 3D del giovane e affermato artista Giacomo Costa sugli immaginifici scorci delle “Città Future”, prodotto per il Festival da Maddalena Ammannati e Cristina Andolcetti, che introdurrà il testo inedito scritto da Stefano Massini “Questions (about tomorrow)”- scenari scientificamente previsti sul futuro prossimo venturo- letto dall’attore Fabrizio Gifuni.
Alle 16 l’audio del “Bombarolo” farà da ironico e divertente sottofondo all’entrata in scena di Danilo Coppe, il più famoso esplosivista al mondo noto per aver demolito l’ecomostro di Punta Perotti, che proporrà il suo roboante “Demolitions: le città per aria!”.

Alle 16.30 salirà sul palco il maestro Yona Friedman: l’architetto di fama internazionale, autore dei visionari progetti sulle città utopiche del Novecento, racconterà al pubblico la “sua città tra cento anni”. Alle 17.30 dall’arena del Cavaniglia l’omaggio a Gaber e al suo forte senso d’appartenenza alla città: Andrea Pedrinelli, il giornalista autore di una monografia sull’artista, condurrà l’incontro, a cura della Fondazione Gaber.
Dal Cavaniglia al più raccolto Teatrino Lorenese, alle 18 per l’inaugurazione del Festival, ideato dalla Regione e progettato e organizzato da Fondazione Sistema Toscana, va in scena il suggestivo “Misterioso viaggio nel silenzio di Thelonious Monk”, che ha già fatto il tutto esaurito con l’ingresso limitato a 200 posti: Stefano Benni reciterà il reading in Fortezza, accompagnato dalle note di Roberto Petrin al piano.

Un sogno.
Un magnifico sogno, pure realizzabile, con molta volontà e un grande senso di gratitudine per quel che Firenze ha saputo donare al mondo, da secoli, ma anche alla nostra infanzia, noi del ‘900 intendo!

Due mostre fantastiche (in entrambe le accezioni del termine) alla galleria Arte Libera: Peter Okame e Roberto Kusterle.
Ci penso spesso: se non vivessi in Second Life non avrei modo di visitare mostre lontane dalla mia realtà per confini chilometrici dalla mia residenza, anche in orari strambi, come l’una di notte, orari in cui effettivamente le gallerie sono chiuse. E non avrei neanche la possibilità di conoscere gli artisti. Virtualmente, certo.
A darcene la possibilità questa volta è Simba Schuman, Owner della galleria “Arte Libera” in Second Life, che presenta due artisti tecnicamente diversi fra loro, ma vicini per il mondo fantastico: Peter Okame presenta “Fantasy world : the life I wish”, Roberto Kusterle presenta “The im-possible worlds of Kusterle“…

I am honored to invite you to the first view of my new artwork ‘La ragazza dell evanescenza’. The exhibition will be in a particular context: the city of Mantua (Mantova, Italy). Because the work is a hymn to lightness and freedom, it will be located outdoors in one of the historic squares. It will be available to view from 14 September at 1:00 pm SLT to 21 September and then distributed to museums and galleries.

After finishing his modelling studies at Second Learning (Italy) and some experience as a builder, he decided to completely devote himself to Art, the great passion he has shown since his childhood in RL. Fostered by the art dealer of Second Learning, Mr. Lion Igaly, he held his first building exhibition in “La Piramide” at the age of 4 months. The good results achieved on that occasion gave him the motivation to attempt this kind of activity. The success of his painting and sculpture exhibitions held throughout SL, in Capri, Venice, Porto Cervo, Milan, Salerno, Rome, NY, Paris, and others lands, soon attracted the interest of many people. As a result, after few months, over 30 different artworks were exhibited in many galleries and museums. In January 2008, during his last period as a builder, he was fascinated by scripting (the art of abiogenesis) and texturing (how to restore fragments of RL in SL). Panoramica… al galoppo!
Avevo appena scritto sul Forum di cyberlandia.net
Scusa la franchezza, Carlos, ma a me qui sembra tutto fermo, e non intendo solo Cyberlandia (il forum è praticamente deserto, alle domande non seguono risposte eccetera)
Il login a Cyberlandia sembra un terno al lotto! A volte ci si logga, si vede la mappa, si puo’ comunicare con altri utenti (che io conosco in media 1-2), ma il teleport non va e perfino muoversi da una regione all’altra di quellle sul proprio server è una scommessa, a volte si frizza, altre no, random
E sto parlando di server ovh, io sto usando l’rps 3 di ovh, con 12 regioni con pochissimi prim.
La versione è ferma alla 10058 suggeritami da Lucu Rau, dopo infiniti tentativi di utilizzarne altre, e che fino a 1 settimana fa o poco più sembrava reggere, il frizzing era ridotto, qualche teleport si poteva pure azzardare, non c’erano crash da settimane…
Su Linode, 360, ma portato al massimo consentito di ram e di banda, riesco a far ‘girare’ una microgrid versione 0.6.4 con 9 sim. con assenza di frizzing, possibilità di muovermi tra le regioni, qualche crash ogni 4-5 giorni … e oltre non vado..
Se curioso sul sito opensimulator.org è una babele di conferme e smentite, scarico un tar 0.6.6 per linux e mi ritrovo con un file non compilabile, e comunque il tutto sembra fermo a qualche mese fa.
Conclusione: cosa sta succedendo?
Seriamente mi domando se i 50-60 euro mensili per mantenere unovh + un linode ‘espanso’ valgano la pena, attendendo tempi migliori e adattandosi a ridurre progressivamente il numero di regioni installabili con l’uno o con l’altro server … siamo quasi ai livelli di spesa per una sim in Second Life, e neppure con la soddisfazione di sentirci degli ’sperimentatoriì, perchè se non ti logghi, cosa sperimenti?
Qualcuno ha notizie miegliori? Per quel che mi riguarda ho due mesi di ‘vita’ per ovh e 3 per Linode, poi se continua così a malincuore rinuncerò all’impresa.

Fra tutti i grandi pittori del ‘900 Kandinsky è quello che forse più di ogni altro ha sentito l’esigenza di dare una formulazione teorica ai risultati delle proprie ricerche e di allargarne il significato toccando tutti i piani dell’esistenza. Già nel 1910, quando appena cominciava ad aprirsi la strada alla terra incognita dell’astratto, Kandinsky aveva scritto Uber das Geistige in der Kunst, altro testo di grande risonanza, proclama mistico più che saggio di estetica, appello a un rivolgimento radicale della vita oltre che al rinnovamento dell’arte. Punto, linea, superficie si presenta come un’opera più fredda e tecnica, ma in realtà è l’espressione più articolata, matura e sorprendente del pensiero di Kandinsky. Alla base del libro sono i corsi che Kandinsky teneva dal 1922 al Bauhaus. In essi egli mirava soprattutto a individuare la natura e le proprietà degli elementi fondamentali della forma, perciò innanzitutto del punto, della linea e della superficie.

The paintings of this period are composed of large and very expressive colored masses evaluated independently from forms and lines which serve no longer to delimit them but are superimposed and overlap in a very free way to form paintings of an extraordinary force.
The influence of music has been very important on the birth of abstract art, as it is abstract by nature—it does not try to represent the exterior world but rather to express in an immediate way the inner feelings of the human soul. Kandinsky sometimes used musical terms to designate his works; he called many of his most spontaneous paintings “improvisations”, while he entitled more elaborated works “compositions”.
In addition to painting Kandinsky developed his voice as an art theorist. In fact, Kandinsky’s influence on the history of Western art stems perhaps more from his theoretical works than from his paintings. He helped to found the Neue Künstlervereinigung München (New Artists’ Association) and became its president in 1909. The group was unable to integrate the more radical approach of those like Kandinsky with more conventional ideas of art and the group dissolved in late 1911. Kandinsky then moved to form a new group The Blue Rider (Der Blaue Reiter) with like minded artists such as August Macke and Franz Marc. The group released an almanac, called The Blue Rider Almanac, and held two exhibits. More of each were planned, but the outbreak of World War I in 1914 ended these plans and sent Kandinsky home to Russia via Switzerland and Sweden.
Kandinsky’s writing in The Blue Rider Almanac and the treatise On the Spiritual In Art, which was released at almost the same time, served as both a defense and promotion of abstract art, as well as an appraisal that all forms of art were equally capable of reaching a level of spirituality. He believed that color could be used in a painting as something autonomous and apart from a visual description of an object or other form.

Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) was a group of artists from the Neue Künstlervereinigung München in Munich, Germany. Der Blaue Reiter was a German movement lasting from 1911 to 1914, fundamental to Expressionism, along with Die Brücke which was founded the previous decade in 1905.

Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, August Macke, Alexej von Jawlensky, Marianne von Werefkin, Gabriele Münter, Lyonel Feininger, Albert Bloch and others founded the group in response to the rejection of Kandinsky’s painting Last Judgement from an exhibition. Der Blaue Reiter lacked a central artistic manifesto, but was centred around Kandinsky and Marc. Paul Klee was also involved.
The name of the movement comes from a painting by Kandinsky created in 1903 (see illustration). It is also claimed that the name could have derived from Marc’s enthusiasm for horses and Kandinsky’s love of the colour blue. For Kandinsky, blue is the colour of spirituality: the darker the blue, the more it awakens human desire for the eternal (see his 1911 book On the Spiritual in Art).

Welcome to the “Rise to Power” Exhibit brought to you by ::CMC:: Designs! This exhibit is named for the five
part series “Rise to Power” which lines the left hand side of the exhibit. But as you look around you may think,
“why in the world are these other pieces here? They don’t go together at all!” This seemingly discordant collection
of sculptures all have one thing in common…. POWER. Each section of this notecard explains the pieces and how
they fit in this exhibit
Section 1: The Rise to Power Series
The “Rise to Power” series tells a story similar to those in fantasy novels… the rise of a lowly wanderer to
a power he never wanted being bestowed upon him. In the first piece, “Wanderer” our hero walks a lonely path
relatively content in his place in life, but deep down wanting more. In “The Discovery” he comes upon a strange
glowing orb, and, intrigued he kneels to inspect it. In “Curiosity” he picks up the glowing orb, his curiosity
overpowering a slight fear of this strange thing. In “The Chosen One” the orb proves to be more than he ever
expected, a source of strength that chooses HIM as the one worthy enough to wield its power. And, finally, “Into
Battle” we see our hero, the once humble wanderer wielding a power greater than he ever imagined as he runs into
battle to protect his loved ones from the advance of dark forces.
Section 2: The Dark Predator
“The Dark Predator” is my attempt to depict a dragon in a different way from the others I have seen in SL.
Often sculptors build dragons in an over simplified way for the sake of keeping it low in prims. I’m taking a risk
here… This piece is rather prim heavy, but I have given it more detail than I have seen in almost any other
dragon statue in SL. He has muscle definition, and he has something others do not… TENSION. He isn’t just sitting
on a pedestal, he’s moving toward you, stalking you, ready to attack! He is the very essence of the power of the
dragon myth.
Section 3: Golgotha
“Golgotha” meaning ‘the place of the skull’ is the name of the hill on which Jesus of Nazareth was said to have
been crucified. This piece is not your typical sculpture that you would find on a standard crucifix. This is not
Christ after he has given up his soul and died on the cross. He still writhes, and screams in pain and despair to
the heavens. This piece depicts power on many levels, on one level it has a powerful emotional impact, on another
it depicts a power recognized by Christians worldwide… the power of Christ, of self sacrifice, and of God’s love.
In this piece I am not asking you to believe in anything… I am simply showing you a power in which SOME believe.
Section 4: Piéta
The “Piéta” based upon the famous sculpture by Michelangelo is the follow up piece to “Golgotha.” The
aftermath, for lack of a better word, of the crucifixion, this piece is meant to depict a different kind of power
in my eyes, than most people might think. It shows the power of grief and despair.
Section 5: Samson
“Samson” is a depiction of the biblical figure, as he collapses the temple down around the Philistines. This
piece, like Golgotha, is not meant as a religious piece per se. This piece shows the power of an incredible
physical strength, and of determination in the face of one’s own demise.
For those who have and will ask, this piece was inspired by the piece by starax of the same title. This is not
an attempt to copy his work, but rather remake it in my own way. starax’s “Samson” had a feeling of desperation and
weakness to it, which didn’t ring true to MY interpretation of the story, so I tried to sculpt it in a way that
infused it with strength and determination. From what I’ve heard, I was successful. My thanks go out to starax,
wherever he may be for the inspiration for this piece.
Section 6: Zakzakiel
“Zakzakiel” is not a made up name. It is the name of an angel of the 7th heaven who records good deeds. In this
piece I tried to depict a divine and majestic quality, by sculpting him with wings outstrectched, hovering, quietly
watchful. It is a sculpture of the power of divinity.
Section 7: God
I honestly cannot wait to hear the reactions to this piece. It seems so out of place among the others at first.
And I know that people, seeing it after the rest of the pieces, and reading it’s title will assume one thing. “This
of course is a sculpture of the Virgin Mary!” I’m sorry to dissappoint you, ladies and gentlemen, but it isn’t.
This is just a sculpture of a loving new mother, cradling her infant. “But… then why is it called ‘God’?” you
ask. This piece was inspired by a line from the movie The Crow, with Brandon Lee. In this movie he says a line that
has stayed with me since the first time I saw the movie… “‘Mother’ is the name of God on the lips of all
children.” So, this piece isn’t so much about the mother, but what the child sees in its mother, the power of a
mother’s love.
It is my hope that you enjoyed this show and found in each piece a kind of power, whether it was what I intended,
or something of your own interpretation!

uqbar. media art culture, nata dall’unione di alcune significative esperienze legate all’arte e alla creatività in second life, quali il museo del metaverso, temperature lab e the cube stop, oggi,dopo un anno di attività, festeggia una community di c.ca un migliaio di persone.
Un doppio appuntamento nei prossimi giorni: dal 26 luglio al 02 agosto, una esposizione OPEN GARDEN interAction di arte digitale in real e in second life e il 27 luglio un grande party, THE DIGITAL P_art_Y #3, in real e second life per festeggiare a modo nostro la community di uqbar.
I due eventi saranno in contemporanea: da Villa Fogliano a Latina, luogo antico e incantevole nei pressi del parco nazionale del Circeo, dove si sta svolgendo il festival delle arti, giunto alla sua 15° edizione; in second life presso la land di uqbar e Museo del Metaverso con una apposito allestimento.
Gli artisti e i creativi che ci sono stati vicini e tutti quelli che lo vorranno fare, possono preparare i propri file da rezzare la sera del 27 luglio, per dare vita al terzo esperimento su questo modo di “mostrare l’arte”, che un po’ di tempo fa abbiamo inaugurato.
L’esposizione in contemporanea delle opere di 5 artisti da noi scelti, OPEN GARDEN interAction, avrà lo scopo di creare un sistema ibrido immersivo e interattivo di partecipazione alla visione dei Lavori. La scelta di presentare i lavori in digitale, monitor 50” e proiezione on line dell’allestimento in world è determinata dall’esigenza di mostrare i lavori nella forma piu adatta ad essere fruita e compresa, evitando ulteriori manipolazioni tra autore opera e fruitore; l’allestimento, curato da Paolo Valente (aka arco Rosca), ha un ulteriore estensione nel metaverso, ove un percorso obbligato introduce gli avatar alla visione delle opere fotografiche e performative.

Concepito quasi per caso, la sera 7 Marzo del 2009, nasce Elle Ellsmere, pittore.
Spaesato, disorientato, con una conscenza del Second World pressochè vicina allo zero, Elle comincia a vagare senza una meta precisa avvicinandosi a diverse realtà.
Mondi fantastici, spazi incredibili, pian piano rendono la mente di Elle sempre meno confusa,svelando le potenzialità e le possibilità che il Second word offre.
Grazie alla disponibilità e alla gentilezza delle persone che frequentano la land del forum Italia (che diverrà una seconda casa per lui) Elle viene a conoscenza della possibilità di condividere con tutti il frutto del suo lavoro.
Per la seconda volta Elle Ellsmere nasce….stavolta in qualità di pittore.
REAL LIFE
Lontano dai modernismi diventati paradossalmente accademismo, lontano dall’attitudine ormai provinciale di dover necessariamente trasgredire con performance intellettualoidi ai limiti dell’estremo, destinati a una ristretta schiera di intellettualoidi, la mia pittura mira alla riconquista del tratto, del segno…convinto della potenza espressiva di quest’ultimo che contorcendosi in una vorticosa danza d’emozioni crea quella che è l’immagine finale, che agli occhi può offrire una fisionomia umana, una forma oggettivamente riconosciuta, ma con un processo a ritroso, immergendosi nel denso colore, nella pennellata, nel tratto fino a entrare nel singolo pigmento di colore offre un nucleo di energia, vero segreto del fascino della pittura, che, al pari
di una tenera amante è capace di ammaliarti e al contempo di straziarti il cuore.

questa presentazione esprime bene lo spirito originario, sia di 
Crashinart che di Artisti della Memoria , due gruppi ispirati dal medesimo desiderio di offrire a tutti l’opportunità di esprimersi artisticamente in Second Life, senza la necessità di forzatamente aggregarsi a famosi galleristi virtuali, senza con questo escludere che le loro opere vengano in seguito riconosciute e promosse anche in quei contesti.
Piccoli, senza grandi aspettative economiche, con grande passione, e senza commissioni sulle opere eventualmente vendute.
Un ringraziamento a tutti coloro che sin qui hanno contribuito con la loro creatività, fantasia, simpatia ad arricchire emotivamente la nostra seconda vita, e un po’ anche la prima

 Ieri leggevo un articolo del Sole24Ore e riflettevo: viviamo in un’epoca improntata alla corsa, dietro cosa non si sa bene. Corrono più di tutti i navigatori del web, i ragazzi in particolare, salvo smentire clamorosamente alcuni luoghi comuni, come quello per cui Twitter sarebbe il loro mezzo per eccellenza proprio grazie alla brevità dei suoi messaggi e alla rapidità con cui si propagano in rete. Invece no, secondo quanto sostiene un quindicenne in stage alla banca d’affari Morgan Stanley non è vero: tra i “nuovi media” i giovani preferiscono Facebook perché si sono resi conto che su Twitter nessuno segue i loro profili e dunque lasciarvi messaggi è inutile.Stavo pensando a questo e ai timori, a volte esagerati, che tutte noi abbiamo sul futuro che attende la cultura e la scrittura in particolare quando mi sono resa conto che era ora di portare a letto mio figlio per prima di potermi collegare un poco in Second Life…

Papper Papp: how did u find sl? and why did u log in ?
Papper Papp: )
Sasun Steinbeck: just to give you an idea of the growth I’ve seen, when I started maintaining the list of SL Art Galleries from Pathfinder Linden, there were no more than about 40-50 galleries on there
Sasun Steinbeck: Now, there are over 550 art galleries on the list. Just amazing growth.
Papper Papp: cool!
Sasun Steinbeck: I read about SL in some magazine somewhere… it was so long ago. It said that everything was built by the residents, which caught my interest.
Sasun Steinbeck: So I just logged in to check it out and it was love at first sight.
Papper Papp: how did u get this wonderful idea about galleries?
Sasun Steinbeck: I was captivated by the creativity I saw, and that’s what’s held me here the whole time, the massive creativity I see every day in the sims, the builds, the architecture, the art, the experiences people create for others to enjoy. It’s truly a magical place!
Sasun Steinbeck: I was good friends with an art gallery owner when I first started SL. I think we had a mutual friend that I met in a sandbox somewhere. Her name was Savi Sieyes, and she had a sandbox where we hung out a lot. So I was hanging around in art galleries ever since the very beginning
Sasun Steinbeck: One of the most rewarding things to me in my entire SL experience is to hear from other artists that tell me they were inspired by my sculpture. Artists that have gone far beyond what I’ve done and taken new kinds of art in new directions that were inspired by something I did (among other influences of course), that’s just such an incredibly gratifying thing for me
Papper Papp: I can imagine
Papper Papp: sharing is important for the new kind of artists
Sasun Steinbeck: Yes I agree, I really think it’s important for artists to get together to share experience and help new members of the art community get integrated into SL and exposed to all the great stuff going on.
Sasun Steinbeck: My particular passion is for the art gallery owners, I have a large group that helps new gallery owners (many of whom own very small boutique galleries of their own works) get started and share experience.
Papper Papp: what do you think about the future about art in sl and about sl ?
Sasun Steinbeck: I think that art in SL (and this applies to other virtual worlds too) is going to dramatically increase in importance and visibility in the RL art world
Papper Papp: I agree
Sasun Steinbeck: The reason is that only in a virtual 3D world can you *experience* an art installation and become part of it in ways that simply can’t be done in RL.
Papper Papp: sure!
Sasun Steinbeck: My sculpture is also a good example of real SL art that simply can’t be taken out into RL and experienced the same way, not even close.
Sasun Steinbeck: You can’t morph a physical object, or fly into a giant sphere of flowers, or experience moving prims like you can in SL.

Papper Papp: you make me feel scripting as an ART
Sasun Steinbeck: I’m glad that when I first started SL I decided to pick ONE thing and do it well. I chose scripting, since I recognized that as the “magic sauce” behind all the really innovative things I had seen up to that point, and I wanted the magic sauce recipe!
Papper Papp: it’s a sort of challenge
Sasun Steinbeck: You raise an excellent point. I strongly believe that the really interesting art in SL is the union between scripting and artistic design. That’s not to say there isn’t some *excellent* 2D art and really nice 3D art with moving textures. But I still think that there’s a huge unexplored frontier of art in SL when you combine scripted objects with art, just waiting to be explored. Trust me you haven’t seen anything yet!! We will see some amazing things in the future. The SL artist of tomorrow needs to learn some new skills, and one of them is scripting!
Sasun Steinbeck: I can only hope that my sculpture inspires some artists to learn LSL and try some new experiments, it’s just one small example of what can be accomplished, there’s so much more that could be done.
Papper Papp: yes, it’s important to use SL at 100%
Sasun Steinbeck: I have seen some very successful collaboration between artists, builders, texture experts, sound experts, and scripters. You don’t need to know everything… sometimes the trick is to find the people that do! If you understand what can be done in those different areas, you can dream up some new possibilities and find someone to help you create it. SL is a very collaborative environment, so don’t be afraid to get out there and collaborate! Two crazy people are better than one

Sasun Steinbeck: I think it’s really really important to document what is going on with art in SL, architecture, sim design… everything

Sasun Steinbeck: and Photographers can capture that essence

Papper Papp: there are disappeared places in sl
Papper Papp: they still live in pics

Sasun Steinbeck: yes! I’m so sad to see some of the amazing sims going away 
Sasun Steinbeck: because of the OpenSpace debacle

Papper Papp: I am thinking to make an exhibition with pics of lost sims
Sasun Steinbeck: You know, I have noticed that growth in the number of art galleries has stalled since then, and is actually declining. And I am pretty darn sure it’s because of gallery closures due to OpenSpace closures
Papper Papp: ( I had this idea in this moment lol )
Sasun Steinbeck: Oh wow that is an excellent idea!
Sasun Steinbeck: I like that, lost spaces 
Sasun Steinbeck: as you can see growth peaked maybe 4 weeks ago and has been on a slow decline since then
Sasun Steinbeck: sometimes these declines are temporary, but you can see from the dots on the chart… this decline is not reversing
Papper Papp: unbelievable
Sasun Steinbeck: I believe the OpenSpace issues are hurting the art world in a significant way from looking at this
Sasun Steinbeck: each dot on the line is one week
Sasun Steinbeck: overall the growth has been phenomenal as you can see
Papper Papp: yes
Sasun Steinbeck: so hopefully this is a temporary hiccup
Sasun Steinbeck: This latest decline has me worried, but it hasn’t been very long, what may happen is that after the galleries on OpenSpace sims close, they may reopen elsewhere, and growth may continue.
Sasun Steinbeck: So we’ll see! I remain hopeful
Papper Papp: what do u think about opensims?
Sasun Steinbeck: That’s an interesting question, there will obviously be a lot of art galleries on OpenSims and I’m wondering how in the world I’ll ever keep track of all of those different islands of grids out there….
Papper Papp: I am not sure that OpenSims could be a good thing for sl )
Sasun Steinbeck: I’m worried about influential people in the art scene saying that SL is dead and encouraging people to leave… I think it’s inevitable that people will migrate to open sims, but I totally disagree that the sky is falling here in SL. I will wait and see like everyone else what happens with all these different grids that will be growing, I’m worried about the fact that it will pull people away from SL.
Papper Papp: but they represent the future in the opinion of most people
Papper Papp: I agree: in Italy journalists are writing about the sl death
Sasun Steinbeck: Yeah I think it’s a dangerous thing to suck paying residents away from SL, it can only hurt LL. Some people may not give a damn, but if LL goes out of business, things around here may be VERY bad, who knows. I think people beat up LL FAR more than they deserve, they are pioneers in this space and this is all one huge experiment. Yeah they make mistakes, they’re learning as they go.
Sasun Steinbeck: I’m very interested to see people’s frustration level with all of the open sim owners, I’m sure they will be saying, wow SL wasn’t so bad
Papper Papp: ) yeah
Sasun Steinbeck: It does represent the future, but I think SL will ALWAYS be the biggest player, they have been doing this for a long time and contrary to people that really don’t know what the hell they are talking about, LL IS the industry expert when it comes to running a 3D virtual world business.
Sasun Steinbeck: Unless they really screw up, they can keep innovating and stay ahead of the pack. But that can change of course
Sasun Steinbeck: Yeah I think there will be lots of lost places as OpenSims grids come and go. There will be a huge shakeout to see who survives and who doesn’t. Lots of lost places

Per gli appassionati di arte, oggi è un grande giorno. Google ha integrato nel servizio Earth la possibilità di osservare diverse opere esposte al Museo del Prado di Madrid, tra cui spiccano capolavori come quelli di Diego Velázquez, Rubens e Rembrandt.
Le opere sono visibili sono quattordici e sono in definizione altissima, grazie a una riproduzione realizzata con 14.000 milioni di pixel. Per accedere alla fantastica opportunità di osservare opere d’inestimabile valore, non dovrete far altro che entrare in Google Earth, impostare la visione 3D degli edifici, digitare nel campo di ricerca la parola “Prado” e tuffarvi tra le meravigliose opere. E’ la più vasta e completa simulazione in 3d di una metropoli dell’antichità, accessibile a chiunque grazie a Google Earth. Il viaggio virtuale di “Roma Antica” è stato presentato in Campidoglio.
Il viaggio lungo le vie dell’Urbe tardo-imperiale è sovrapponibile alle normali immagini di Roma su Google Earth. Concepito in base al plastico del Museo della Civiltà Romana, è una fotografia della Roma tardo-imperiale intorno al 320 d.C., al tempo di Costantino, e comprende circa 6.700 edifici ‘visitabili’ in ogni minimo dettaglio.
Un nuovo strumento di forte interesse potenziale per lo sviluppo del turismo romano, che potrebbe – auspica il vicesindaco Cutrufo con delega al turismo – invogliare nuovi visitatori a venire nella capitale.

This exhibit opens at 11:30 a.m. SLT on Sunday, November the 16th and brings to you numerous works of art with a wide variety of unique Second Life art, including several one-of- a- kind pieces from various artists. The Museum is an amazing work of architectural art created by NMC’s CJ Carnot. When settings are turned to midnight, you will notice the subtle changes in hues on the building, and will be awestruck by the beauty and design.
This month three artists will be showcased on the second floor of the museum. The featured artists include French artist, vroum Short as well as Italian artist’s shellina Winkler and Solkide Auer.
vroum Short- Joining SL in November 2007, vroum wanted her second life to take place in a creative universe.
Surrounded with all her friends, she created Vegetal Planet, a world where all becomes possible and attainable, where the barriers of the real life become less marked, and let her imagination flood it with life.
Through her creations, Vroum attempts to leave aside
